Unknown: A Poem Exploring our Darkest Fear

 Unknown

Unknown, You lie afar,

Beyond the known,

Beyond the familiar

in the subtle realm

of incomplete thought.

Your face is such,

When looked at

shows nothing.

Featureless.

Expressionless.

Your face is such,

When looked at

shows lips moving,

Any voice unheard.

Your eyes though blank,

Seem to foretell unrecorded lore.

Seem to invite me

before I'm invited.

Are those portals to the future?

A saga conjured by Your mind.

Your face is such,

When looked at

shows a wrinkled forehead.

Are You stressed?

Overwhelmed that Your words

are unsounded?

That Your caution about

ultimate doom,

Humanity's Final Showdown,

Shall go unheard?

Your face is such,

When looked at

seems to be summoning

Uncertainty and Fear,

Your eternal companions.

Why are You so cruel,

Ruthless and brutal?

You took away my Hope,

Humanity's Hope.

You're enemies with Hope, aren't You?

You revealed to me

to keep my excitement,

My aspirations,

My optimism

at bay

for nothing's known

till you hold

the Threads of Time

and make us puppets

in Your show of life,

Unknown.
