Sky is the Limit: A Motivational Poem

Sky is the Limit: A Motivational Poem I'm pretty sure you're thinking that you've either read or heard of this morally uplifting quote sometime in the past. Or, even if you're not, let me assure you that the message going to be conveyed by this empowering quote is certainly going to stir the fear of aiming high out of you. Hey! What are you waiting for? Prepare your spirit for the rejuvenation it is bound to experience after reading the following poem, which is deceptively simple and short, yet the theme it conveys is as firm as an oak tree rooted in the soil. Also, do ponder over the use of the anaphora "Or is it not the Limit". Sky is the Limit, Or is it not the Limit? It is for you to decide, Whether you give up or stride. When you can climb the ladder of life, Why kill your passions with a knife? When opportunities are given, Why pretend they are hidden? Sky is the Limit, Or is it not the Limit? It is for you to decide, Whether you stay at the coast, Or s...

An Elderly Advice Saves the Day: A Short Narrative

An Elderly Advice Saves the Day: A Short Narrative Never, even in the worst of all nightmares, decline advice that comes from the elderly. Don't confuse the acceptance of advice with indecisiveness. Wise men (and even fools) have always said, from time immemorial, that the best advice always flows right from the hearts of the elderly. Never brush aside what your grandma or grandpa or any other old (and of course wise) relative says because each word they utter isn't just advice but also has the potency to change the course of destiny. You may wonder, how? Their sayings can not only prevent you from encountering the worst experiences but also can expose you to life-changing experiences that you may have always resented. The following narrative expounds on the unforgettable, dreadful event,  experienced by a boy and how his grandma's advice helps him weather the storm. Flash and boom! The thunder roared and growled into my ears. As I sat there, alone and all alone, lost in ...

To the Moon and Stars - My Companions: A Nature Poem

To the Moon and Stars - My Companions We usually fear the night, don't we? Rather, we fear the darkness of the night. But, why? We always get frightened by the unknown and darkness, like a veil, conceals the known to make it the unknown. This poem is an attempt to convey the idea of the night's amiability. Though the darkness of the night arouses overwhelming emotions, it necessarily doesn't intend to frighten us. Rather, wants to befriend us through its components, the moon and the stars, that add to its eerie beauty. When I stepped under the dark, night sky, I found myself wanting to cry, Those fearful sounds and horrible faces, That I watched on the telly, at different places, Made me go wild and crazy and mad, When I was expected to be glad! Now that I love stars, too fondly, And that I admire the moon's beauty, It's easier for me to imagine myself, Enclosed by a blanket, of Moon, held by an elf! The company of the night sky and to be its companion, Is at least ...

True Patriotism and Duty: A Short Satire

True Patriotism and Duty: A Short Satire We all make mistakes, don't we? And yet, we ignore ours and seize every opportunity to criticize others for their follies. This story is a grim attempt to make, not him , not her , not them , not it , but us contemplate over our own deeds, whether wrong or right. Also, it throws light over the difference between jingoism and true  patriotism. I was indulging in my sweet, honey-like slumber. It was probably the best sleep I had been experiencing. Little did I know that I was going to be pulled out from the depths of my slumber and brought to the surface in an instant. Suddenly, in the midst of my seemingly eternal sleep, I could hear my mother screaming out her lungs. She spoke with an extremely shrill voice just like a crow that sometimes caws merely to pester those around it. “Have you watched the news?” asked my mother, her pitch high suggesting the ‘importance’ of her saying, “They say that the government plans to fix the roads of our co...

Compassion - An Understanding: A Humanitarian Poem

Compassion - An Understanding This poem seeks to establish the right  idea of compassion. Is it a mere outward display of sympathy or an emotion that essentially makes humans human ? Compassion, Compassion, What's it all about? Love, empathy, care and no-doubt! It's just a scrappy old puzzle, And lots of pieces to juggle, Out-and-out only through tenderness, And yes, don't omit astuteness! Compassion, Compassion, What's it all about? Is it only pity? Or can ya include sympathy? You must certainly be humane, Sufficient enough to easily sustain, Or all that you'd have to hold, Would be a basket of pain and heavy load! Compassion, Compassion, You know what's it all about, An outpour of love, A helping glove, A shovel and saw sensitive, A pail and can supportive. Compassion, Compassion, All that I want,  Is what humanity wants, An end to people's taunt, Spread of utter jocund, And misery absolutely shunned. Gaurav Chandra Tuli
